Birthday celebration!

It was my friend Avinash birthday yesterday, and his first time beeing away from friends and family during his B-day. And everyone knows the little bit of sadness that might be pressent when traditions has to be broken. So, on his wishes and our pleasure, we celebrated his day according to the Indian traditions regarding birthday celebrations!

A lot of things are being brought out in a opposite matter in India compared to Sweden. Still don't understand the rational behind the celebration of birthdays... But then  again, why does everything need to have an explanation?;)

According to my classmates from Kerala they start at midnight by putting color on the birthday-friend, as they were celebrating Holi, and then they have Cake, if there is any cake left over since there's this tradition that your friend has to feed you with the cake. And most of the time you end up getting half of the cake in your face;) That is kind of sweet though!

And yesterday I came to know about another tradition where your friends should kick you or give you a punch in the back for "luck" or something which could turn out to a bit of a fight. So yesterday my friend was complaining about some backache after his friends had been hitting him the day before.. Omg...

Another tradition when it comes to birthdays is that the Birthday kid is the one that should give something to his/her friends, compare to the opposite back home. I mean, I don't say no for a free dinner but, something felt a little wrong when I didn't have to pay the bill...
Most of the time, my classmates often offer some kind of treat when their birthday is coming up. And if they don't, there wil be number of people screaming "where's our treat yaar?!"

We ended up having a very nice evening, despite some mobile disturbances... (Goosh, mobiles should be forbidden when you go for dinner with friends...;), but I hope you had a nice birthday Avinash!!
