You Are Your Own Master

Why do some people follow a certain leader or a Guru? And why does a certain person get the role as the leader or a Guru? Are those persons just very good in marketing themselves or do they actually have something reasonable to say?

As you all may know we explored Uttarakhand, India, for some time and ended up spending a little more time in Rishikesh - a place famous for their numerous ashrams and of course breathtaking veuw of the Ganges river surrounded by mountain heights! It's a place where people come to relax, do yoga and get inspired by Gurus and spiritual leaders. A Guru, per definition, is a person with a certain skill who gives advices in the matter, most commonly a spiritual leader/teacher in Hindu religion. There are millions of Gurus and spiritual leaders around the world; each one with their own view and oppinion of life - Osho, Satguru and Moji to just mention a few well known of them.

I am not much of a fanfollower in general. But I do find it interesting to listen to these Gurus since they give you a point of veuw about life which you might not had thought of and which further leads you to questioning things - and I enjoy doing that😉

But the thing is that you don't have to listen to a Guru or a spiritual leader in order to find inspiration or to find guidance in life. Anyone could bring you inspiration to that. And that is why I also question people who see them self as followers to a certain spiritual leader. Also, what makes a person a Guru? What makes people travel around the world to meet their spiritual leader and to sacrifice their time and money to this One person?

We had the privilege to meet a man during our stay in Rishikesh who grew up in a culture where spiritual leaders and gurus were a natural part of his life. And with the drive as a journalist, that he became later in life, he had tried to seek answers about what drives people to follow a Guru? What does spiritual leaders actually preach? Does their preaching actually have an impact on people? And can their preaching bring actual change into the socioeconomic system that most of us live in?

 Nature's beauty😍

His fascination about the matter was breathtaking. And since I am aware that my level of intellect could never be measured with his level of intellect/insight of life I mostly listened and soaked in his words from his stories and theories that his 30 years of research and life experience had given him.

What is really life about?
Searching for a meaning?
Enjoying it? Suffer it?
Understanding yourself?
Understanding the world we live in?
Do we all live in the same world or do we live in different worlds but perceive it differently?

You will have an infinity of questions through out your life. And no matter how many Gurus or spiritual leaders you listen to, the only one who will have the answers to All your questions are You.
The general answer by a Guru will be to seek your answers from within. Be your own Guru or Master.
So, this one is for me.

Madeleine - you inspire me✌
